Age Range: Adults 18 and older. Youth ages 10-13
Note: Please wear a shirt that is of natural fibers, jeans, and shoes that completely cover feet. Safety gear will be supplied.
The Basics of Blacksmithing invites youth ages 10-13 and their adult partners to experience the art of blacksmithing together. In this engaging two and a half-hour class, pairs will learn foundational blacksmithing concepts, practice proper techniques, and collaborate to hammer out a unique project. With expert guidance and a focus on safety, this class offers a hands-on opportunity to create lasting memories and a handmade keepsake. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, or mentor, join us for a creative adventure that sparks connection and craftsmanship!
Instructor: Thaddeus Prevette, Mixxer Resident Artist
Instructor Bio:Thaddeus Prevette is a sculpture artist who began working with three dimensional objects back in 2016. He graduated from Western Carolina University in 2020 with a BFA in studio art and graduated from East Carolina University with an MFA in sculpture in May of 2023. He participates in public art exhibitions and was commissioned for the design of the ECU 911 Memorial sculpture back in 2021. He works with recycled and repurposed material to create narrative artwork that is influenced by historic and modern mythologies.
